RV Rentals for a Red Rocks Concert

Red Rocks runs about 146 shows from April to November. Camping is banned in every lot, so park a van nearby and drive in for the show.

Six Foot Five Is the Rule Nobody Mentions

Red Rocks measures width, not length. Anything 6 feet 5 inches across at the front or back counts as oversized, as does any vehicle towing, and oversized means Lower South Lot 2 and a longer climb to the gates. Most camper vans cross that line. Knowing it before you arrive is the difference between a calm evening and a scramble.

You Cannot Sleep in the Lot, and They Mean It

The venue's wording leaves no gap: overnight camping is prohibited in all parking lots, roadways and natural areas, and any vehicle left overnight must be unoccupied. A separate line says oversized vehicles cannot remain overnight at all. Treat the van as transport and a tailgate base here, and book a proper site for sleeping.

The question we hear most about Red Rocks is about sleeping in the lot, and the venue leaves no gap in it. Overnight camping is prohibited in all parking lots, roadways and natural areas, and any vehicle left overnight has to be unoccupied. Treat the van as transport and a tailgate base, and book a site in Golden or Littleton for the night. The other number to know is width rather than length: anything 6 feet 5 inches across at the front or back counts as oversized, which catches most camper vans and sends you to Lower South Lot 2 and a longer climb to the gates. Vehicle entry stops nightly at 8:30 pm.

Why Rent a Camper Van for a Red Rocks Show?

Three venue rules shape everything about arriving in a van: tailgating is welcomed, overnight occupancy is banned, and vehicles are sorted by width. What that leaves you with:

  • A legitimate tailgate base for the hours before doors, with a kitchen and a bathroom in it
  • A fixed parking answer, Lower South Lot 2, so no circling for a space in the dark
  • Vehicle entry to the park stops nightly at 8:30 pm, or earlier if staff call it, which sets your arrival time for you
  • Free admission and parking on non-event days, so you can drive the lot in daylight first
  • Somewhere warm to wait out the gap between doors and the headliner at 6,450 feet

A Class B handles Alameda Parkway after a show far better than anything longer.

Where Do You Park an RV for Red Rocks?

Lower South Lot 2 for the show, and a campground for the night. No form of camping exists at the venue. Three bases work:

  1. Dakota Ridge RV Resort in Golden, the nearest full-service park to the amphitheatre.
  2. Chatfield State Park in Littleton: 197 sites, 146 of them full hookup from mid-April to mid-October, electric-only year round, $36 to $41, bookable six months out at cpwshop.com or 1-800-244-5613.
  3. Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood.

One contradiction to settle before you lean on it. The venue says an unoccupied vehicle may sit in the park until 10:00 am the next morning, yet also says oversized vehicles cannot stay overnight. For a camper van those two lines do not reconcile, so do not plan on leaving it. [VERIFY: call Red Rocks on 720-865-2494 to confirm whether the 10:00 am allowance covers an oversized vehicle.] Our smaller RV rentals slot into Lower South Lot 2 most easily.
